Food safety compliance handled automatically
What is a self-monitoring plan?
Every business selling food products needs a self-monitoring plan (omavalvontasuunnitelma in Finnish). It is a legally required document describing how the business ensures the safety of food products sold.
- EU Regulation (EC) 852/2004 requires all food business operators to have a self-monitoring plan based on HACCP principles.
- The Finnish Food Authority (Ruokavirasto) supervises compliance in Finland. The plan must be presented upon request.
- The self-monitoring plan covers all stages: receiving, storage, sales, and traceability.
- Only packaged products are sold in unmanned self-service. This simplifies compliance significantly.
- A food premises notification must be made before starting operations. One notification covers all sales points under the same operation.
