Risto Holappa

Founder, Willit Oy

Oulu, Finland

A software developer and entrepreneur combining technology with Nordic food culture.

Northern roots

Risto grew up in Arkala, a small village in Ylikiiminki near Oulu. Forests, fishing, and berry picking shaped how he thinks about building things: practical, rooted, no waste.

University of Oulu, Computer Science

Vision

Risto believes foragers, hunters, fishers, and wild-food processors, alongside local producers, deserve equitable market access. Wild food is the most undervalued food category in Finland.

Every Willit purchase amplifies the voices of wild food and the people who bring it to the table, and shortens the route from catch to plate.

Connection to nature

Foraging

Bilberries, lingonberries, cloudberries, cranberries, nettle, spruce tips, and birch sap have been part of Risto's life since childhood.

Fishing

Northern rivers and lakes, salmon and perch. Fishing has been a lifelong companion since childhood.

Hunting

Moose and deer hunting connects communities and provides responsibly sourced meat.
